The Best of Both Worlds

With the Kansas City Royals clinching the 2015 World Series last night, it’s time for the baseball off-season to begin, and the first order of business (after victory parades and some press conferences) will be the revealing over the next few weeks of the 2015 season award winners.  One of the most coveted awards is the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for both leagues. Today’s infographic is interesting as it shows how many winners of the MVP award have also helped their team capture the World Series crown. Starting in 1931, when the Baseball Writers Association of America began awarding the MVP, 38 players have had this distinction — 19 from each league. (Is it any surprise, given the odds, that the New York Yankees have the most with 10?).  Granted, this hasn’t happened in a long time, with the last NL winner in 1988 with Kirk Gibson and the Dodgers, and 1984 for the AL with Willie Hernandez and the Tigers. Let’s see if that changes if a Royal is named AL MVP this season!  [VIA]
