The median family income in 1955 was about $4800 (adjusted for inflation, that’s about $42,500 today). Using the same calculator, this $1000 doll would cost about $8900 — I think Santa would have been stretched a little thin in both cases! I am captivated by the longing in the little girl’s eyes though.
