Before I even noticed the swarm of flies around the tent and the children, I caught sight of the old Wrigley’s Spearmint box in the lower right of the tent.

Another one to file under “the more things change…”  Seems like some things have always been irresistible, like squirting your friend at the water fountain.  Three guesses as to what happened right after this was taken!.

When you think of the horrors of Nazi Germany and everything it, and the Hitler Youth represented, it’s hard to remember that for these kids, it was just like being in the Boy Scouts.  I can easily see these same faces camping in a tent in BSA uniforms.  It also makes one wonder how many of these smiling boys survived the next seven years.

Photo of the Day – 01/06/17 (“Klan v. Police”, 1992)

Daily Photo — “Klan v. Police, 1992”

Given the current state of affairs regarding Civil Rights, the police, and racial tensions in general this is a very interesting and rich photograph for discussion and analysis. Take in the photo as a whole, with context, and then even the details such as the reflection itself and the expression on the officer’s face.

1992. A young boy in KKK robes sees his reflection in a riot shield held by an African-American state trooper. Taken in Gainesville, Ga. by Todd Robertson.
